NBA Insider Reveals 76ers' Asking Price for James Harden Trade
The LA Clippers have widely been considered the most likely landing spot for James Harden if the Philadelphia 76ers were to trade their star guard. While that still seems to be the case, LA has not yet been willing to meet Philadelphia's asking price. According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, that asking price is still very steep.
"[Daryl Morey's] asking price is exorbitant," Wojnarowski said during a recent ESPN segment. "Teams are not engaging the Sixers with the kind of asks that Daryl Morey is asking for James Harden. That's where Daryl Morey always starts in trade talks - really high. Then over time, perhaps you work him back down... Right now, the Harden talks, like [Damian] Lillard, are going to linger into the summer."
With Harden under contract, it's clear the 76ers feel they are operating with a level of leverage they didn't have before Harden opted in. Prior to Harden opting into the final year of his contract, the possibility of him signing with a team like the Houston Rockets, leaving Philadelphia with nothing, was real. Now with Harden locked into the final year of his deal, it's clear the 76ers are in no rush to lower their asking price while they use this time to also attempt reconciliation with their unhappy star.
This latest update gives clarity into why there has been no real traction on a Harden trade.
