On a recent episode of his podcast, Chicago Bulls guard Patrick Beverley talked about his former teammate Russell Westbrook. When asked about the 6th Man of the Year voting, Beverley said Westbrook should have won the award for what he did during his time with the Lakers.

"I thought Russ was gonna get that," Beverley said. "Most triple-doubles off the bench. Most triple-doubles off the bench, what else we talking about?" Beverley emphasized that Westbrook's triple-doubles off the bench had never been done before, and should have earned him 6th Man of the Year honors.

Had Westbrook played off the bench all season, perhaps he could have won the award, but the 2017 league MVP observed the starting point guard role with the LA Clippers after signing with them after the All-Star break. Beverley seemed very pleased with how Westbrook was performing with the Clippers, saying, "He's got a lot of basketball to play. You can't count him out. He's been hooping."

Beverley's podcast was recorded before the Clippers were eliminated from the playoffs, but he was absolutely correct about the level of basketball Westbrook was playing. Averaging 23.6 PPG, 7.6 RPG, and 7.4 APG for the Clippers, Westbrook looked like a two-way star during that first round series, and gave his team a chance to win every game without Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.
