Paul George Reveals Truth About Almost Joining LeBron James
At one point in time, it was almost a realistic possibility for Paul George and LeBron James to team up on the Cleveland Cavaliers. It's a story that not many know about, but George revealed recently.
On the newest episode of Podcast P, Paul George and Dahntay Jones had a conversation about George potentially joining LeBron. In fact, it was Dahntay Jones, who was a member of the Cavaliers, who tried to catalyze the partnership.
"[They said] we need a shutdown corner. And I’m in the back like, PG! They’re like damn, but don’t nobody know him," Jones said. "[I said] that’s my man! And in the back, they’re going like PG would be dope. I’m like yeah I’m a free agent so I can call him. That’s my man, he gon’ pick up. At that point I’m texting him though like PG what’s up baby? You happy? He’s like ah bro like I think imma try…I’m like bro you ain’t seen these finals. These finals is where it’s at. He’s like I know bro but I think imma stay. So we go and we start talking about all of that. I’m like alright imma work on PG because I think we can make that work. And then PG hit me like 2-3 days later and was like bro, what was you talking about? And I’m like well, okay this is what the scenario is. That whole stuff with Kyrie broke out and…we knew we were going to upgrade our talent and change what we had. And PG was like well I compete against him but I ain’t ever really spoke to Bron. I was like y’all would be perfect. Like Bron’s a great dude, you [are] good people. Like people who know the type of person PG is and we all in this room know that that’s a dope human being so like they would work well together. I was like bro, honestly and truthfully, there are some things that you could learn from LeBron. Just because you one of them ones but like you [are] climbing. You still got stuff to climb. And getting you to the finals, I was selling like shoe sales, all this stuff is going to increase."
Paul George revealed that LeBron James was selling the idea of moving to Cleveland to him. All of this happened during a private meeting between the players, which then resulted in George going to LeBron's house.
"And the deal almost went down," Paul George said. "I didn't know how serious it was or that it could actually come to life. But after the meeting we went to his crib, we chopped it up…Bron sold it to me. Like man we’re gonna try and make it happen…At the end of the day I’m 24, 25 years old, I’m still a fan of Bron…Regardless of the battles we had I’m still looking at him like, that’s Bron!”
Despite how close it came to be, Paul George never ended up joining LeBron James. They ended up playing in the same building together, but never had the moment of playing together.
