Trade Idea Between LA Clippers and Toronto Raptors Proposed
The NBA trade deadline is approaching, and teams are deciding which direction they plan to go. For the LA Clippers, their front office could make a real case for staying put at the deadline, or making a marginal move at most. With the best record in basketball since December 1st, the Clippers have won 20 of their last 24 games, and have looked every bit of the dominant force they expected to be once acquiring James Harden.
While LA's recent success helps make a case for staying put at the deadline, there are almost always moves on the margins that can be made to strengthen a roster. For the Clippers, that could come in the form of a versatile forward off the bench to help strengthen some of the depth they lost in the James Harden trade.
In a recent article from Bleacher Report's Zach Buckley, Otto Porter Jr. and Chris Boucher of the Toronto Raptors were proposed as logical targets for the Clippers. This is of course a hypothetical trade idea as opposed to sourced reporting, but the logic could be there for the Clippers.
While Boucher may be the more intriguing option due to his versatility across positions at his size, the $10.8M he is owed next season is likely not something the Clippers want to commit to for a player who may not have a direct path to rotation minutes. As for Porter, his $6.3M expiring deal could be a lot more reasonable to take on.
Unlikely to cost much at all, given he has played just 15 games this season for the Raptors due to injury, Porter could be a very low-risk move for the Clippers at the deadline to bolster their collection of wings.
