2023 NBA Draft: Chris Livingston Cancels Workouts as Potential Promise Emerges
A 6-foot-6 wing, Chris Livingston was one of the best high school players in his class entering last season as a Kentucky Wildcat. While he didn’t have as impressive of a season as we could have hoped, he showed enough to get the attention of NBA teams.
Entering the pre-draft process, Livingston was widely projected to be a second-round pick at best. Even then, he opted to not participate in scrimmages at the NBA Combine, which was presumably due to positive team feedback. There was a sense that he was confident in the range and tier franchises had him in.
From there, he continued to work out individually with several different NBA teams in attempt to prove that he is a much better player than he showed in one season at Kentucky. With seven scheduled workouts in the final two weeks leading up to the 2023 NBA Draft, Livingston has reportedly cancelled everything remaining.
In what was yet another interesting move by Livingston and his camp, this sparked a belief that he may have a draft promise from a team. Whether that’s a promise of being selected in the second round, or even a promise at a favorable two-way spot as an undrafted free agent, it would make sense.
As a freshman last season, the now 19-year-old averaged just 6.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per game while shooting 42.9% from the floor. He was definitely overshadowed on a talented roster, but didn’t shine near as bright as a prospect of his caliber should have. Livingston was always expected to be a one-and-done, but entering college the belief was that he’d be a first-round pick.
