2023 NBA Draft: Houston Rockets Official Selections and Draft Grades
Houston wasn’t lucky on lottery night, falling to the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.
Regardless, on draft night, they still added what is sure to be a highly valuable piece to the growing core of Jalen Green, Jabari Smith Jr., Tari Eason and Alperen Sengun, which should be one of the brighter spots in the NBA in a few short years.
Houston also came into the night armed with the No. 20 pick, another extremely valuable draft in what was considered one of the best drafts in decades.
Here’s how the Rockets’ draft unfolded:

Draft Summary
At fourth overall, the Houston Rockets got their alleged guy in Overtime Elite guard Amen Thompson, who is sure to infuse to team with athleticism, playmaking and high basketball IQ.
At No. 20, they got someone they apparently were considering fourth in Villanova wing Cam Whitmore, who saw one of the biggest slides of the night due to potential medical issue.
Regardless of whether Whitmore pans out, a shot at No. 20 is well worth it for the Houston Rockets, who have finished in the bottom three in each of the last three seasons. Thompson and Whitmore could end up being one of the better drafts for Houston in their new era.
