2023 NBA Summer League: Top Rookie Performers From July 15 Games
Across seven games today, half of the teams that missed out on the NBA Summer League Playoffs took the floor for their final game in Las Vegas. As most of the top draft picks have ended their respective summer league campaigns, that opens the doors for others to shine bright. Saturday marked the final opportunity for quite a few incoming rookies to leave their mark before not taking the court again until preseason action.
Which three rookies were the top performers in yesterday’s slate of games?
Toumani Camara (Phoenix Suns)
20 Points | 10 Rebounds | 2 Blocks
A late second-round pick, Camara could be asked to play as a rookie in Phoenix given the roster situation and limited cap flexibility to add depth. He should be up for the challenge later in the season, as he played four college season and has quite a bit of experience under his belt. A double-double machine, Camara impacts the game in a big way.
Gradey Dick (Toronto Raptors)
21 Points | 5 Rebounds | 2 Steals
Known for being a 3-point shooter, Dick knocked down three of his five attempts from beyond the arc on Saturday. Since the Raptors don’t have a clear direction entering next season with everything that could happen, it’s unclear exactly what his role will be as a rookie. Either way, shooting can help any team and he should make an impact early.
Trayce Jackson-Davis (Golden State Warriors)
18 Points | 10 Rebounds | 4 Stocks
Although he fell to nearly the very end of the 2023 NBA Draft, Jackson-Davis has the experience, frame and skillset to make it in the league. This has become more evident following this summer league performance, as his game translated very well. It will be tough to get minutes early on with a contender like the Warriors, but situationally he could be an important piece sooner than many think.
