2024 NBA Draft: Hunter Sallis, Jaylon Tyson and Terrence Shannon Jr. Among Pre-NCAA Tournament Stock Risers
The NCAA tournament games have now begun and with the regular season wrapped up, we saw a couple players really raise their stock over the last month. The three prospects that flew up draft boards more than others included Hunter Sallis, Jaylon Tyson and Terrence Shannon Jr.
Let’s dive into why their stock went up over the last month.
Hunter Sallis | Wake Forest
Sallis is a 6-foot-5 wing who’s averaging 18 points a game for Wake Forest. The junior has vastly improved as a shooter from behind the arc. In his first two seasons at Gonzaga, he converted on 25% of his triples with just 16 makes from behind the arc. This season he’s shooting 41% with 74 makes from deep.
Sallis is a tough shot-maker with an advanced scoring arsenal. He’s efficient at scoring it off the dribble and catch. The projected first-round pick also has a very soft touch around the rim. His defense is a tad bit underrated as he’s able to defend multiple positions.
Jaylon Tyson | California
Tyson is a 6-foot-7 forward who currently plays for California, which is his third college in three years after transferring from Texas and Texas Tech. The projected first-round pick excels as a scorer as well as a slasher given he has great burst, a tight handle, and explosiveness at the rim.
Tyson also has a very good floater to go along with his ability to finish through contact and above the rim. The junior is a talented shot-maker who has the ability to score it at all three levels. The scoring versatility combined with some solid passing traits and athleticism had made his name fly up draft boards as of late.
Terrence Shannon Jr | Illinois
Shannon is a 6-foot-6 fifth-year senior that’s currently third in the nation in points per game as he averages 23. It’s undeniable that Shannon is one of the best athletes in the entire draft. He has elite explosiveness off of one and two feet. He’s likely the fastest wing in the entire draft which allows him to excel in the open floor and draw a ton of fouls.
The explosive wing is tenth in the nation in made free throws. The lefty has been a mismatch problem for teams due to his high-level slashing, tough shot-making and ability to draw fouls. If Shannon is able to help lead Illinois to a deep tournament run then we should continue to see his name rise up draft boards.
