USC Guard Isaiah Collier Continues to Make Strong 2024 NBA Draft Case
USC point guard Isaiah Collier — one of the more highly-lauded recruits coming into the 2023-24 collegiate basketball season — continued to make a strong draft case versus Brown on Sunday.
In 34 minutes, Collier poured on 24 points on 8-for-14 shooting, hitting on three of his five attempted triples. He also tacked on three assists in the win.
More performances like Sunday’s and Collier might find himself locked into the top spot sooner rather than later, largely due to a mix of his own skill and lack of current competition near the upper draft ranks.
Through four games with USC, Collier is now averaging 21.0 points, 3.8 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals while shooting 52% overall, 42% from beyond the arc and 81% from the line. If those numbers hold —which they very likely won’t as conference play will bring an entirely new challenge — he’ll be an easy bet as a top-three pick in the upcoming draft.
Of course, there’s plenty still for Collier to work on in the coming months. His 5.3 turnovers per game is his biggest disadvantage, especially as his passing was already a concern with him being a true point guard prospect. And his general playmaking could use some tightening up.
But Collier has also impressed in a few areas that many weren’t expecting, namely his above-average perimeter shooting and stingy defense at just 6-foot-3. And there's no question his frame and physicality look easily translatable at any level of basketball.
Collier and the Trojans will next take on Seton Hall at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 23.
