In what should be a national holiday in my humble opinion, Thursday’s NBA Draft is right around the corner. As teams have their board set and prepare themselves for a multitude of draft day scenarios, here is the second and final of my favorite projected second round and undrafted value targets.

Ricky Council IV I Wing I Arkansas I 6'6 I 6'10 Wingspan

2022-2023 Stats: 16.1 points I 3.6 rebounds I 2.3 assists I 1.1 steals I 0.3 blocks

27% 3-point shooter on 3.5 attempts I 79% free throw shooter on 6.1 attempts

Projection: Second Round

Council’s leap to the SEC after winning the AAC Sixth Man of the Year award was a major success. The explosive shot making wing led Arkansas in scoring and a Sweet Sixteen run before being outed by UConn, the eventual national champions.

There’s exciting two-way upside with Council. He thrives getting downhill (led SEC with 173 made free throws, second with 218 attempts) and out in transition, where his physical tools and shot making versatility shine. He’ll need to find consistency defensively, but the tools are there in his intersection of strength, length, quick hands, and recovery athleticism to be an impactful, multi-positional NBA defender and disruptor.

The funky jumper mechanics and career 30% 3-point mark on 238 attempts rightfully make his shooting the key swing skill. A little more shooting success or a better shooting trajectory might have solidified him as a first rounder. With the questions still out there regarding his shooting, I believe he does have enough diverse shot making to hold positive shooting gravity and fill a 3-and-D role while adding additional value as microwave bench scorer.

Seth Lundy I Wing I Penn State I 6'5 I 6'10 Wingspan

2022-2023 Stats: 14.2 points I 6.3 rebounds I 0.9 assists I 0.8 steals I 0.6 blocks

40% 3-point shooter on 6.4 attempts I 80% free throw shooter on 3 attempts

Projection: Second Round

Lundy improved each year at Penn State, ultimately culminating in a career best season as a senior and significantly raising his profile with memorable NBA combine performances in front of NBA decision makers. His knockdown shooting from spot ups to movement and off balance makes, his off ball 3-point profile is something Lundy will be able to hang his hat on (41% on 178 catch-and-shoots threes, 39.1 on 133 spot up 3-pointer attempts).

Although he doesn’t project to be a stopper, Lundy is a completive defender with a broad upper body that defends with strength, length, and spirit. He routinely drew the toughest defensive assignments for Penn St and didn’t back down. Lundy is an obvious 3-and-D role fit that teams can expect to immediately contribute.

Hunter Tyson I Big Wing I Clemson I 6'8 I 6'10 Wingspan

2022-2023 Stats: 15.3 points I 9.6 rebounds I 1.5 assists I 0.9 steals I 0.1 blocks

40% 3-point shooter on 6 attempts I 83% free throw shooter on 3.3 attempts

Projection: Late Second Round-Undrafted

Size, shooting and toughness immediately enters my mind when projecting Hunter Tyson. All of which shined at Clemson and has continued to do so throughout the pre-draft process that has seen Tyson earn invites to the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, G League Elite Camp and NBA Combine. There is arguably nobody else in this cycle that has utilized their additional COVID eligibility year and pre-draft process to help themselves more than he has.

Tyson possesses the size, fluidity, athleticism, and consistent effort level to at worst be a passable defender that can switch. That’s all that’s needed as a bigger floor spacer.

His blend of size and 3-point shooting is the bankable combination. Tyson is a career 36% 3-point shooter who shot a career best 40% deep (205 attempts) with a translatable mix of movement and spot up shooting. If undrafted, he’ll offer one of the best pairings of size and 3-point shooting on the UDFA market.
