Baylor Basketball Fielding Multiple Potential NBA Draft Picks
Currently ranked No. 9 in the country with an illustrious history behind them, there’s no real mystery surrounding the why the Baylor men’s basketball team continues to be one of the premier teams in the sport.
And this year, they may have some of their highest profile future NBA prospects in awhile.
In the last few seasons, the Bears haven’t been shy to send players to the pros. Davion Mitchell, Jared Butler and, most recently, the No. 16 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft Keyonte George, who’s off to a white-hot start with the Utah Jazz.
Currently, the 6-0 squad has Ja’Kobe Walter, Yves Missi, Rayj Dennis and Jayden Nunn, all of which will have a shot to be selected at various ranges in 2024.
Walter, a former five-star with an affinity for ranged shooting and stingy defense, is currently generating the most buzz.
Averaging 17.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.2 steals while shooting 47% overall and a blistering 43% from beyond the arc, Walter is gather top-five looks already. And it’s easy to see why with clear production in a 24’ class off to a slow start.
Missi, a 6-foot-10 big man with athletic vertical pop who’s set to be a transition monster at any level, is slowly gathering steam, too. In six games so far, the Cameroonian-prospect is averaging 9.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game while shooting 60% overall, which is right in line with most other top-tier center prospects in the class.
Dennis and Nunn are both smaller-built guards, but both talented in their own right, and should have a chance to hear their names called with solid outings for the Bears this season.
All this and more has Baylor back in the national championship hunt after cutting down the nets just three seasons ago. The Bears take on Nicholls tonight at 7 p.m. CT.
