College Prospect Spotlight: Alabama’s Noah Clowney
There's always a handful of college players who don't get as much national attention as they deserve, but are incredible players that could make an impact at the next level.
Often times, prospects are overlooked by bigger stars on their team, but are still quietly making an impact.
For this week’s spotlight, we take a look at Alabama forward Noah Clowney, who has legitimate NBA talent.
Noah Clowney (F | Alabama Crimson Tide )
6’10” | 205 lbs
Season Stats: 9.5 PPG | 8.8 RPG | 0.9 APG
Notable Accolades
Clowney is a surprising potential one-and-done’s that’s made a huge impact for the eighth-ranked Crimson Tide this season.
At 6-foot-10, he’s got a grueling paint presence, but has shown the versatility to be able to score from outside as well. He ranks third among Alabama players in points per game, only behind projected top-10 pick Brandon Miller and junior guard Mark Sears.
The freshman ranks in the top 30 of freshman per Cerebro Sports' C-RAM metric, and has posted an impressive 78 DSI so far. He’s shooting 51 percent from the floor and blocking 1.5 shots per game, as well.
NBA Upside
While Clowney hasn’t shot the ball at an elite level from outside yet, he’s projectable enough to be a really intriguing pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.
He’s not a pure scorer, but has been adept enough in his role at Alabama. He’s long, athletic and has a variety of moves both on and off-ball that most 6-foot-10 moderate athletes don’t have at their disposal.
With some work, he could become a legitimate three-level scorer in the NBA with the size and defensive versatility to boot.
In the short-term, teams can use him as a rangy, defensive forward who can score when needed, all while honing his offensive potential in the process.
