College Prospect Spotlight: Yale’s Danny Wolf
The 2024 NBA Draft may not have an elite talent at the top that has already claimed the No. 1 spot, but there is a ton of depth in this class. There's numerous pathways to the NBA these days, but college is still the primary route that players take. The current season has featured a tremendous amount of talent across the country in what has been an exciting campaign thus far.
Not only are players at the top schools performing well, but there's also many quality talents at some of the colleges that rarely get the spotlight. There's always a handful of college players who don't get as much national attention as they deserve, but are incredible players that could make an impact at the next level.
For this week’s spotlight, we take a look at Yale center Danny Wolf, who has legitimate NBA talent.
Danny Wolf (Center | Yale Bulldogs)
7’0” | 255 lbs
Season Stats: 13.4 PPG | 9.0 RPG | 2.2 APG | 1.3 BPG | 48.0% 3PT
Notable Accolades
A former McDonald's All America Game nominee, Wolf has been a very impressive player dating back to high school. The former three-star recruit also comes from a basketball family, as he has two brothers that also have experience at the college level.
While 3-and-D centers aren't all that common even in today's game, Wolf has earned an 88 DSI and 71 3PE this season according to Cerebro Sports. He still has room to improve, but the 7-footer does have skills that translate in the modern NBA.
NBA Upside
At 255 pounds, Wolf has an incredibly strong frame. There's not many players in the modern NBA that boast that size, as versatility and perimeter-oriented basketball is the way the league is trending. With that in mind, the 7-footer is shooting 48% from beyond the arc on over two attempts per game this season. Relative to his size and position, this makes him one of the most impressive shooters in the entire country.
Another trait that nearly every modern NBA player possesses is the ability to pass the ball and at minimum be a connector. Wolf is averaging 2.2 assists per game along with a 14.9% assist rate, which are both impressive marks for a center. He's also a fantastic rebounder and has notched nearly 2.5 stocks (steals + blocks) per game thus far.
Again, he may not be in the spotlight as often as he should, but Wolf does have many skills that could translate at the NBA level.
