Cooper Flagg Could be the Next Generational NBA Draft Prospect
There’s been plenty of storied NBA prospects to pass through the draft ranks in the last few decades: LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Zion Williamson and Victor Wembanyama, just to name a few.
And the next in line could very well be Montverde Academy’s Cooper Flagg.
It might seem a little premature to lump Flagg, currently a high schooler, in with those names. But many experts would tell you he’s one of the more advanced players relative to his age they’ve likely ever seen.
At 6-foot-8, Flagg is one of the more fluid and coordinated 16 year old athletes most professional scouts have seen. He has phenomenal fundamentals, footwork and a variety of elite on-court skills that make him near unguardable amongst his current peers. And those very same skills could see him drafted No. 1 overall in just a few short years.
He’s got a strong interior presence offensively, functioning well both posting up and finishing plays. He’s also a rapidly growing shot-creator, pairing his already-advanced handle with his innate feel and instincts. He’s a work in progress from beyond the arc, but projects to be a capable shooter down the line.
By the time it’s all said and done, Flagg’s claim to fame could very well be his defense. His coordination translates well in helping him to swarm on-ball, and his length helps him as a rim-protector and lane-clogger.
Flagg will likely have his pick of schools and professional programs. Per 247Sports, Flagg currently has offers from Duke, UConn, Kansas, Michigan, Texas, UCLA, Villanova and more.
With a reclassification, Flagg will be eligible for the 2025 NBA Draft.
