Jalil Bethea, one of the top 2024 high school basketball prospects, made his commitment official on Monday.

The shooting guard, a consensus five-star among the top basketball recruiting sites, officially announced he’ll spend the next leg of his basketball career with the Miami Hurricanes.

Bethea ranked ninth nationally on 247sports, seventh per ESPN, sixth via On3 and 17th on Rivals. He chose Miami over schools like Kansas, Syracuse, Villanova and Temple.

At 6-foot-4, Bethea proved himself a potent scorer of the basketball in his latter high school years at Archbishop Wood. A combo guard who shies more towards shooting guard, he has real prowess as a shooter and shot-maker, and should be a real infusion for the Hurricane on that end of the court.

He has a slim build, but makes up for it with some quick-twitch movement, smooth verticality and lateral movement and sneaky athleticism.

Bethea has knack for hitting threes — both while stationary and on the move — and should offer an offensive spark if he can iron out a few other wrinkles. He’s still working out the kinks in ball-handling, passing and shot-creation, but should otherwise provide a real off-ball presence while honing those other skills at Miami.

In regards to the NBA, teams are always looking for off-ball scoring savants with shades of point guard. So Bethea should realistically be a target for teams as he enters his freshman season.

He may have steep guard competition in the 2025 NBA Draft, but could easily become a highlight player with a standout season in Miami.
