Ignite Update: Leonard Miller Continues to Show Promise
Since the inception of the Ignite program, the G League has become a more popular route for some of the top young talent in the world.
Although the team is struggling this season, the Ignite once again has a handful of players that will have the chance to get drafted this summer. They've only earned one win in the past couple of weeks, but the upside is clear for many of these athletes.
As it relates to the 2023 NBA Draft, how are the top Ignite prospects shaping up?
Scoot Henderson
18.9 PPG | 5.8 APG | 4.5 RPG | 35.7% 3PT
Henderson is still firmly the best guard prospect in the upcoming draft, even if his 3-point shooting has been fairly poor of late. He's got too much upside as an overall playmaker and lead guard for that to hurt his stock dramatically.
Remember, this is Henderson's second-straight season to play with the Ignite in the G League. He's continued to improve and show new things with each passing game that should make any team comfortable selecting him No. 2 overall in the 2023 NBA Draft.
Leonard Miller
15.1 PPG | 8.5 RPG | 1.0 SPG | 52.4% FG
The primary flaw in Miller's game is his 3-point shooting, as he's converted on just 27% of his attempts from beyond the arc this season. If he's able to expand that part of his game, his stock will skyrocket ahead of this summer's draft.
Miller is a highly effective rebounder and good defender, which should make him an impactful player on both ends next season. His 75 DSI per Cerebro Sports has been impressive playing in the G League against professional talent every game.
Sidy Cissoko
10.0 PPG | 2.8 APG | 2.7 RPG | 31.4% 3PT
The offensive side of the ball still hasn't been all that impressive from Cissoko this season. He's a high upside defender, but we've seen countless times in the modern NBA that good defenders also have to be able to score efficiently in certain situations.
From beyond the arc, the free throw line and the floor overall, Cissoko has a long way to go from an efficiency standpoint. On the flip side, he does have underrated facilitation skills that combat some of the lack of scoring aggressiveness.
Mojave King
8.9 PPG | 3.5 RPG | 1.6 SPG | 34.5% 3PT
King made a name for himself early in this G League season as a sniper from beyond the arc. He's been less efficient of late from deep, but still has a smooth jumper that should translate to the NBA.
It's sometimes difficult to gauge King as a prospect given the team he's on and the system he's playing in. Regardless, he's proven to be an effective role player that can fill it up from deep.
Efe Abogidi
8.3 PPG | 5.5 RPG | 1.0 BPG | 57% FG
Abogidi is older than most of the Ignite prospects that could enter the upcoming draft, but also has much more experience. He previously spent two seasons at Washington State at the college level, producing similar numbers that we've seen in the G League.
He's not a great floor spacer, which is an attractive trait for modern bigs, but he is a solid free throw shooter. If Abogidi was able to get more efficient from deep, it would do wonders for the rest of his game.
