Ignite Update: Mojave King Further Proves Perimeter Shooting Upside
Since the inception of the Ignite program, the G League has become a more popular route for some of the top young talent in the world.
Although the team is struggling this season, the Ignite once again has a handful of players that will have the chance to get drafted this summer. They recently lost both of their G League Winter Showcase contests, but the stars shined.
As it relates to the 2023 NBA Draft, how are the top Ignite prospects shaping up?
Scoot Henderson
21.2 PPG | 6.0 APG | 4.3 RPG | 47.1% 3PT
As we enter the new year, Henderson is still the top guard in draft class. He’s an elite athlete and an alpha scorer that will lead an NBA team’s frontcourt for years to come.
This season, Henderson has further proven his 3-point shot could be real, which only improves his draft stock. He’s also dished out a ton of assists and has flashed the lead guard facilitation skills.
Leonard Miller
15.1 PPG | 8.6 RPG | 1.2 SPG | 50% FG
A combo forward built for the NBA, most of what Leonard has shown this season has been positive. The perimeter jumper hasn’t been as good as we’ve hoped, converting on less than 30% of his triples.
With that in mind, he’s been effective from inside the arc and has shot a good percentage overall form the floor. Miller is also a great positional rebounder and has defensive versatility.
Sidy Cissoko
9.3 PPG | 2.5 APG | 2.9 RPG | 33.3% 3PT
While Cissoko is shooting at a respectable 3-point clip this season, his overall efficiency has not been great. He’s shooting under 40% from the floor this season, further proving his offensive upside isn’t near as high as most potential first-round picks in this class. He’s also shooting worse than 65% from the free throw line.
The defense has still been solid, as he’s generated nearly a steal and block per contest this season. Cissoko is also an underrated facilitator and can be a secondary lead guard at the NBA level.
Mojave King
11.5 PPG | 3.7 RPG | 0.7 SPG | 38.6% 3PT
For NBA teams looking for floor spacers, King will be a name that generates a ton of attention. He’s shot just under 40% from deep this season on almost five attempts per game.
Just 20 years old, King has good positional size at 6-foot-5 and is extremely durable. He’s notched as many minutes as anyone on the Ignite this season and rarely misses time due to injury.
Efe Abogidi
9.4 PPG | 6.0 RPG | 1.2 BPG | 83.3% FT
After two seasons at Washington State, a 21-year-old Abogidi is playing great in the G League. The 6-foot-10 forward doesn’t necessarily have star potential, but could be an important piece for a team at the next level.
He’s tried stepping out and spacing the floor this season, but hasn’t been effective on the limited attempts from beyond the arc. However, he is a good free throw shooter for a big which is an underrated skill. He needs to improve as a rebounder, but Abogidi has what it takes to be an impactful NBA player.
