The Kentucky Wildcats are yet again set to reload their future rosters with talent, landing a verbal commitment from five-star guard Johnuel "Boogie" Fland on Friday.

Just last season the Wildcats landed the No. 1 class in the entire nation. Now, with Fland’s help, they’re looking to do it again.

A 6-foot-3 point guard hailing from Archbishop Stepinac high school, Fland is a consensus five-star across all four major recruiting sites. He tops out at No. 10 nationally per Rivals, No. 18 on ESPN and No. 20 per 247sports and On3.

"The visit played a big part in my decision," Fland told ESPN. "It was fantastic. It blew me away. The setup there is incredible; the gym is right next to the housing lodge. My host was D.J. Wagner. We played USA Basketball together and bonded. On my visit, I watched practice and workouts. You go against the best every day, and that's what I want."

But just what is Kentucky getting in Fland?

At his core, Fland is a playmaker with a knack for getting to his spots and knocking down shots at a great clip. He’s a three-level scorer, with comfortability from range. But still in need of some improvement in that department.

He’s not a pass-first point guard, but has gained comfortability facilitating over the last few seasons, and should continue to improve in that area.

Defensively, Fland has the athleticism, coordination and more to succeed at both the collegiate and professional levels, but isn’t working from a great starting point at 6-foot-3. Luckily, his plus wingspan should help him hold his own on that end for the foreseeable future.

Fland will be eligible for the 2025 NBA Draft, and with a strong season as Kentucky’s lead guard, could find himself at the top of those ranks.
