NBA Draft: Houston’s Jarace Walker Seeing Shooting Surge
Houston forward Jarace Walker has seen a shooting surge, of late. And the subsequent NBA Draft buzz has followed.
At 6-foot-8, Walker is a projected top ten selection and one of college basketball’s top prospects. He’s has great size, the physicality to match and is one of the few potential draftee’s with true defensive anchor potential.
On top of that, he has some real feel offensively, showing touch in the paint, midrange and even from beyond the arc. Offensively, he’s averaged over 11 points per game for No. 2 Houston this season.
Even as a high school prospect, Walker was thought of to have perimeter upside, but he’s seen a massive boost to that stock in his last stretch of games.
In his first 15 games with the Cougars, Walker shot the ball solidly, making 36 percent but averaging just 1.5 attempts per contest.
In his last seven games, however, it seems he’s made it a point to shoot the outside shot more. In that span, he’s more than doubled his attempts to 3.6 and is remarkably shooting even better at 40 percent.
With those numbers, he’s boosted his season stats to 38 percent on 2.1 attempts per game from beyond the arc.
With defensive tools, a workable inside game and underrated passing chops, a consistent shot has helped propel Walker’s game even higher. Due to being able to play within the system, and potentially even higher production as a focal piece, some have Walker as high as the top-five in the 2023 NBA Draft.
