NBA Draft: Nets Have Plenty of Options with Back-to-Back First Round Picks
With back-to-back picks in the 2023 NBA Draft and plenty of holes left to be filled on their roster, the Brooklyn Nets have interesting decisions ahead of them.
They’ll select at No. 21 and 22 overall, and will likely be on the hunt to bolster both their guard and frontcourt depth.
There’s plenty of options in terms of guards in that range, including point, combo and shooting guards. Jalen Hood-Schifino, Kobe Bufkin, Nick Smith Jr. and more have a chance to slide all the way to those spots, all of which would likely benefit from a few seasons under starting point guard Spencer Dinwiddie.
With their second pick, they could look to add frontcourt depth. And while there’s not a ton of high-value options in this range, they could opt to fall a few picks back and swing on players like Alabama’s Noah Clowney, Duke’s Dereck Lively or even G League Ignite standout Leonard Miller, all of which provide solid defensive and rebounding potential.
If the Nets are looking to move forward with hyper-scorer Cam Thomas as a key piece to their future, surrounding him with strong defensive options in Hood-Schifino or Bufkin, and a potential slinky, defensive-minded floor-spacer in Clowney could be the way to go.
Regardless of who Brooklyn leaves with, they’ll have more versatility to add next to their core in Mikal Bridges, Cam Thomas, Ben Simmons and Nic Claxton.
The 2023 NBA Draft kicks off at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 22.
