Spurs Find Perfect Fit Next to Victor Wembanyama In Mock Draft
The 2025 NBA Draft is loaded with top-tier talent and star power. Any team in the NBA Draft lottery should come away feeling really good about its selection. Sure, Cooper Flagg is the top prize, but there are still plenty of top tier talents.
The San Antonio Spurs have taken a step in the right direction this season and will continue to build on that throughout the year. However, the Spurs still will be able to get into the NBA Draft lottery. in the latest mock draft from NBA Draft expert Derek Parker, the Spurs come away with the perfect fit next to unicorn big man Victor Wembanyama.
San Antonio selects University of Georgia standout Asa Newell in this mock draft with the No. 12 pick. Newell is an athletic standout with a scoring punch down low and two-way promise.
"A five-star freshman, Newell has been a surprise to me especially...He has been a very solid finisher with size and touch, has rebounded well, played great defense all over the court and has continued to shoot 3's despite not many of them going down yet," Parker said.
"At 6-foot-11 I think there is a future where Newell can be a jumbo NBA four, scoring on the inside, crashing the glass, playing nice help defense and hitting easy spot-up shots. Which would be a scary prospect next to Victor Wembanyama," the Draft expert continued.
Pairing Wembanyama with a more bruising forward could be just what the doctor ordered for this young Spurs core. Mixing in Stephon Castle, who is already terrorizing the league defensively and this could be one of the NBA's best units on that end of the floor.
