Tankathon Reverse Standings: Pistons, Rockets Close to Securing Odds as Late Lotto Shifts
The end of the 2022-23 NBA regular season is in sight. For some, that means the postseason is nigh. For others, it brings the relief that can only come with a sub-20-win season.
With just a few games left on the schedule, teams are close to locking in their 2023 NBA Draft odds. Here are the current reverse standings, as well as a Tankathon spin to see where prospects could land:
1. Detroit Pistons, 16-62
The Pistons have four games left to play, and with a 2.5-game lead on the Rockets, they haven’t quite locked up the top overall odds. But they’re close with no real threat from Houston to usurp.
They’ll platy the Heat, Nets and Bulls in three of their final games, and should have the top odds, featuring a 14 percent chance at future top pick Victor Wembanyama and no lower than pick No. 5, locked up in the coming days.
2. Houston Rockets, 19-60
Houston has three games left on its schedule: the Nuggets, Hornets and Wizards.
They currently have a 1.5-game lead on San Antonio and, while they’re not out of the woods just yet, they’re edging closer to securing the second-best odds and their share of 14 percent at Wembanyama.
On Sunday they suffered a 134-109 loss to the Lakers to continue to keep the Spurs at bay.
3. San Antonio Spurs, 20-58
Just 2-8 in their last 10, the Spurs are officially locked into bottom three odds. The won’t be able to catch the Pistons at No. 1, but there’s a slim chance at overtaking Houston for the second-best odds.
Regardless, San Antonio should feel comfortable leaving with 14 percent at Wembanyama after a one of their worst seasons in decades.
4. Charlotte Hornets, 26-53
5. Portland Trail Blazers, 33-45
6. Indiana Pacers, 34-45
T7. Orlando Magic, 34-44
T7. Washington Wizards, 34-44
9. Utah Jazz, 36-42
10. Dallas Mavericks, 37-42
11. Oklahoma City Thunder, 38-41
12. Chicago Bulls, 38-40
13. Minnesota Timberwolves, 39-40
T14. Atlanta Hawks, 39-39
T14. Toronto Raptors, 39-39
