Tankathon Reverse Standings: Rockets Move Closer to Securing Second-Best Odds
With just a pair of games left on most schedules, teams are fighting tooth and nail for playoff positioning.
On the flip side, others are fighting for better 2023 NBA Draft odds, and it’s been a gritty and eventful fight near the bottom as the season closes.
Here are the current reverse standings, as well as a Tankathon spin to see where prospects could land:
1. Detroit Pistons, 16-64
Losers of their last 11 games, Detroit has officially locked up the top odds in the 2023 NBA Draft.
After losing Cade Cunningham to injury earlier in the season, this will feel like a win for the Pistons organization to help add another piece to their core.
2. Houston Rockets, 20-60
After beating Denver on Tuesday night, the Rockets’ second-best odds were in jeopardy of being lost.
They’ve got just two games left on their schedule, and while they now have a much better chance at retaining those odds, they’ve shown no desire to lean towards developmental lineups, so it’s not out of the question just yet.
But their fate is essentially in their own organization's hands: with any Spurs win or Houston loss, they can lock in the second-best 2023 odds.
3. San Antonio, 21-59
After pulling within just a half-game of Houston, the Spurs beat the Blazers on Thursday night, moving back to one full game behind the Rockets and the third-best odds.
At most now, they can force a tiebreaker over the Rockets with exactly two San Antonio losses and two Houston wins, but it’s look more likely the top order will be Pistons-Rockets-Spurs. Regardless, all three teams have a 14 percent chance at the coveted top selection.
