The end of the 2022-23 NBA season is in sight. For some, that means the postseason is nigh. For others, it brings the relief that can only come with a sub-20-win season.
With just a few games left on the schedule, teams are close to locking in their 2023 NBA Draft odds. Here are the current reverse standings, as well as a Tankathon spin to see where prospects could land:
1. Detroit Pistons, 16-59
Detroit has just a 1.5-game lead over Houston right now for the top overall odds, which would cement them landing no lower than five, a major win by draft standards.
While it’s certainly possible to slip back below Houston, the Pistons are just 1-9 in their last 10, and have thus far shown no signs that they’ll see any major chance to that pattern.
With players like Cade Cunningham, Jaden Ivey and Jalen Duren firmly on board the rebuild, adding another strong player via the 2023 draft should help propel the team into a brighter 2023-24 season.
2. Houston Rockets, 18-58
The Rockets are only one of the bottom three with any real movement in sight. They are sandwich between both the Pistons and Spurs, and could realistically make a play for either pick.
Organizationally, it appears they’re just fine continuing to roll out their current product and letting the cards fall where they may.
3. San Antonio Spurs, 19-56
Charlotte, the Spurs nearest competitor to usurp the third-best draft odds, has now won four of it’s last five games, including back-to-back wins over the Mavericks and a feisty win in OKC.
The Spurs are now six full games ahead with just seven game remaining on their schedules, and have officially locked up a share for the highest percent chance at the No. 1 pick.
4. Charlotte Hornets, 26-51
5. Orlando Magic, 32-44
6. Portland Trail Blazers, 32-43
7. Indiana Pacers, 33-43
8. Washington Wizards, 34-42
9. Utah Jazz, 35-40
10. Chicago Bulls, 36-69
11. Dallas Mavericks, 37-39
12. Oklahoma City Thunder, 37-39
13. Los Angeles Lakers, 37-38
T14. Toronto Raptors, 38-38
T14. New Orleans Pelicans, 38-38
T14. Atlanta Hawks, 38-38
