With just hours remaining on the NBA Playoffs countdown, a battle is waging near the bottom of the standings, too.
With premier talents like French forward Victor Wembanyama, G League standout Scoot Henderson and collegiate star Brandon Miller up for grabs in the 2023 NBA Draft, teams out of the running are grappling for the best possible odds for draft night 2023.
Here are the current reverse standings, as well as a Tankathon spin to see where prospects could land:
1. Detroit Pistons, 17-64
The Pistons are officially locked into the top draft odds.
After losing former No. 1 pick Cade Cunningham for the season due to injury, Detroit will now look to add to their core with what they hope will be another top selection. Regardless, they won’t fall below five, meaning their season likely was organizationally a success.
T2. San Antonio Spurs, 21-60
After giving up 151 points in a loss to the Timberwolves on Saturday, the Spurs are now deadlocked with Houston for the second-best draft odds.
San Antonio plays the Mavericks in their final game of the season today. With a win, depending on how their and the Rockets’ game shakes out, they could secure the second or third odds today, or tie. Regardless, it won’t be a shoe-in loss for San Antonio with Dallas opting towards the draft themselves.
T2. Houston Rockets, 21-60
On the flip side of that coin, the Rockets face the Washington Wizards today.
Winners of three of their last four games, Houston has shown no signs of opting towards developmental lineups, leaving the door open for the Spurs to take the second-best odds.
4. Charlotte Hornets, 26-55
5. Portland Trail Blazers, 33-48
T6. Orlando Magic, 34-47
T6. Indiana Pacers, 34-47
8. Washington Wizards, 35-46
9. Utah Jazz, 37-44
10. Dallas Mavericks, 38-43
T11. Oklahoma City Thunder, 39-42
T11. Chicago Bulls, 39-42
13. Toronto Raptors, 40-41
14. Minnesota Timberwolves, 41-40
