Toronto Raptors: Gradey Dick Could Make Immediate Impact
There’s no question the Toronto Raptors will look a little different next season.
There have been multiple notable additions and subtractions over the years. Kawhi Leonard’s departure to Los Angeles, Fred VanVleet’s recent signing with Houston and the addition of 2021 Rookie of the Year Scottie Barnes.
But despite major changes, the bones of what was once a proven core are still there. Star Pascal Siakam is playing at potentially his highest level ever, as is forward OG Anunoby. And there’s several other pieces that are slated to have a high impact on the team.
Even still, rookie Gradey Dick could be set to see major minutes this year, and quickly too.
Drafted No. 13 overall in the 2023 NBA Draft, Dick is sharpshooter with a knack for lights-out 3-point shooting, smooth finishing around the rim and team-oriented basketball. All things that should help him slot in quickly with Toronto.
The former Sunrise Christian graduate did the same in a tough Kansas system in his lone collegiate year, averaging 14.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists while shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc from the get-go.
Alongside players with gravity like Siakam and Barnes, Dick will be able to fire off 3-pointers and cut to the basket to his heart’s content.
And if the Raptors finally do opt to move towards a youth movement, Dick is assuredly in line for more on-court opportunity. Potentially with Barnes as a lead handler.
All that and more could be a strong reason why Dick is one of the safer bets to make an All-Rookie team, be it first or second.
