Wemby Watch: Finding Rhythm From Beyond the Arc?

If Victor Wembanyama's recent success from deep is real, his game will be at an entirely new level.

The San Antonio Spurs have only won four games this season, but they have still been one of the most exciting teams to watch in the entire NBA. This is primarily due to Victor Wembanyama, who has the chance to be the face of the league in the near future. As good as he was early in the season, there was much he needed to improve on to really reach his rookie ceiling.

Luckily for him, there has been steady improvement as the first part of the season has gone on. Wembanyama is beginning to look more comfortable and is already the best player in San Antonio.

What has the generational talent done since our last Wemby Watch update, and what are his statistics to this point?

Victor Wembanyama

2023-24 Stats: 19.0 PPG | 11.0 RPG | 3.0 BPG | 1.3 SPG | 2.7 APG | 43.6% FG | 28.1% 3PT

Spurs Record: 4-22

As good as the French phenom has been this season, the biggest area of concern has been the inefficiency from the floor. This is especially true from 3-point range, as he's consistently shot below 30% from that mark. Over the past three games, Wembanyama is 7-of-13 from beyond the arc. Most notably, he converted on five of his seven 3-point attempts in back-to-back contests against the Los Angeles Lakers.

While the level Wembanyama has been shooting from deep of late isn't sustainable, it is a positive sign moving forward. As good as he is defensively, on the glass and as a passer, efficient scoring has been a struggle. If the 7-footer continues to improve in that respect on the volume he shoots, he will have a real chance to average 25 points per game in the very near future.

In the upcoming week, Wembanyama and the Spurs will take on the Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks, Utah Jazz and Portland Trail Blazers.
