NBA Draft Scouting Report: Alabama's Charles Bediako
Charles Bediako
Center | Alabama
Height: 7'0” | Weight: 225 lbs
2023 Draft Age: 21.28
Prospect Profile
A Canadian center, Bediako has now spent two seasons at Alabama. In the most recent one, the 7-footer got to play under a spotlight as the Crimson Tide featured multiple NBA talents and was one of the best teams in the country.
More of a defensive prospect, Bediako is a great shot blocker. He earned SEC All-Defensive Team honors last season due to his ability to protect the rim.
One thing he’s improved on but still needs to get better at is rebounding. Bediako is fairly thin and doesn’t clean the glass as well as you’d like a guy of his height to.
On the offensive end, he has good hands and touch and finishes well around the rim. He uses his length well and is great in transition. Bediako is still limited offensively in half court sets as he doesn’t do much outside the paint. He doesn’t attempt 3-pointers and hasn’t proven to have an effective jump shot at all. He’s also the worst free throw shooter in this class, which isn’t promising for shot development upside.
Bediako simply projects to be more of the rim running backup big type of player with good paint protection ability. The former four-star recruit was one of the best centers in his high school class at IMG, but hasn’t really turned into the ideal modern big.
In 2023 NBA Draft, Bediako probably will probably go undrafted or drop before the deadline and goes back to school. However, all it takes is one team to value his size and defensive upside to take the risk on him as a late second-round project.
