NBA Draft Scouting Report: Duke's Sion James
Player Info
Sion James
Wing | Duke
Height: 6'6” | Weight: 220 lbs
2025 Draft Age: 22.56
Prospect Profile
After four solid seasons at Tulane, James took his talents to Duke in order to prove he can make an impact on the biggest stage. The versatile wing has shown steady improvement in each of his college seasons, but is now playing a bit of a different role with the Blue Devils.
The thing with James is that he doesn’t necessarily have the most jaw-dropping performances. He does stuff the stat sheet and produces in nearly every category, but he’s not known for being a top option on either end. Even then, he’s a capable scorer with improved range who can also rebound, pass and force turnovers on the defensive end. James is also capable of playing a high number of minutes, which speaks to his durability and conditioning. He's the ultimate roll player who makes a difference nearly every night.
James is a well-built player who can match physicality on both ends and plays with power. He is great at playing within himself and not trying to do too much, which is a valuable trait. He’s a good decision-maker on offense and a versatile defender which is why he can be trusted on both ends. Despite being the size of a guard or wing, James has flashed the ability to play nearly any position with his well-rounded skillset, strength and motor.
James wasn’t a big recruit coming out of high school, but hard work and determination have gotten him to this point. He’s a legitimate NBA prospect who can help a team win in the right role. Both his father and brother played collegiate ball as well, but he will look to be the one who makes it to the next level.
