Prospect Profile

Jones transferred to Memphis and really thrived during the recent campaign in what was a major breakout season. Before his spectacular showing with the Tigers, Jones spent one season at St John's and two seasons at DePaul. A lefty wing, Jones boasts a physical build that is ready for the NBA. He also has the type of athleticism that will translate at the next level.

What made the Memphis prospect so intriguing last season was the consistency in which he generated points. Jones scored in double-figures in all 32 games last season, showing off his self-creation upside and ability to score from many different spots. He was one of the top college scorers in the country last season, which was driven by being a much improved free throw and 3-point shooter.

On that note, Jones truly did have an outlier season with the Tigers from beyond the arc, so NBA teams will need to buy into that being a real jump. He has always been a pretty effective scorer inside the arc, but his 3-point shot was significantly better last season compared to those prior.

Moving forward, Jones will need to improve his decision-making and handle, while also ensuring he can impact winning without being a volume scorer. He has a clear path to being a quality NBA contributor regardless, but his role will look very different than it did at Memphis. Jones is a great rebounder who also has the size, length and tools to be a versatile defender at the next level. He’s very pesky and disruptive on the defense end but does gamble too often sometimes.

In short, he has the tools to do nearly anything on the floor and would very much be worth a second-round pick. A former four-star high school recruit born in the Dominican Republic, Jones earned First-Team All-AAC honors in his final collegiate season and is now ready to make the jump to the NBA.
