Prospect Profile
A sturdy-built forward who has spent time at Ole Miss, Iowa State and Pittsburgh, Hinson brings an intriguing skillset to this upcoming draft class. Although he will be nearly 25 years old at the start of his rookie season, he projects to be a player who could bring a new wrinkle to a team’s rotation.
Hinson is known for being an accurate, high-volume sniper from beyond the arc. During the recent season, he converted on 42.1% of his 7.9 attempts from beyond the arc per game. Especially at 6-foot-8 with the ability to shoot over defenders, that’s hard to deny. He has a quick release and deep range.
Even then, he isn’t a great rebounder for a player of his size and physicality. Hinson also lacks passing upside, dishing out just 26 assists all of last season. He also isn’t much of a shot blocker, so he is somewhat limited in what he does provide.
Following his college career coming to an end, Hinson earned the opportunity to showcase his talent at G League Elite Camp, where he had a phenomenal performance. In fact, on the second day of the camp he led all scorers despite struggling from beyond the arc.
Again, Hinson is one of the oldest players in this draft class but possesses skills that should translate at the NBA level, especially the perimeter shooting. While he may have to work his way into an NBA rotation by proving himself in a G League system, he has what it takes to one day carve out a role.
The former Sunrise Christian Academy prospect has taken some time to get to this point, but has really developed into a good prospect. His brother and father both played college basketball too, so he has the pedigree.
