Prospect Profile

A Spanish guard with good size, De Larrea is starting to emerge as a floor general with real NBA upside. As this draft cycle continues to unfold, he’s showing quality development and the tools required to make an impact at the next level. 

Especially of late, De Larrea has been able to match up with players of various positions and hold his own. Given his positional size and strength, he provides versatility on both ends of the floor. He hasn't been able to play off-ball much recently, but he has the size to play as a wing if needed later on.

While his passing upside is evident, De Larrea is still improving his processing and decision-making. He shows flashes of being a great passer, but isn’t consistent enough quite yet. He has good accuracy when he does dish the rock, but sometimes makes the wrong read or navigates the scheme incorrectly. As time goes on and he gets more reps, this should continue to improve naturally. 

When he’s not passing and being the facilitator for his team, De Larrea has plenty of scoring production. He has a smooth jumper and can knock down stationary shots or convert on the move. He likes to pull up from beyond the arc, but when he attacks inside the arc, he’s generally getting all the way to the rim. De Larrea can finish with both hands and uses his physical tools well.  

On the defensive end, De Larrea has the theoretical upside to be a switchable piece who can guard multiple positions. But at this point, he hasn’t proven to be a lockdown defender or playmaker on that end.  

De Larrea is just 18 years old and starting to show flashes of brilliance in Spain’s Liga ACB. He may not be the type of player who can play a prominent role in the first few years of his NBA career, but there’s no question he possesses the upside to one day be a good lead guard in the league.
