Prospect Profile

Lanier is a North Florida transfer who broke out last year following three pretty mediocre seasons there. Now, he’ll look to prove he can maintain that level of production against higher levels of competition ahead of the 2025 NBA Draft with Tennessee.

Being an elite perimeter shooter is what Lanier’s game is built upon. He’s a super efficient scorer and a very good free throw shooter. In fact, he shot better than 50% from the floor in his final season at North Florida, to go along with nearly 45% from deep and almost 90% from the line. Lanier is also a good rebounder for a guard, which is another underrated trait he brings.

Lanier really needs to show his passing and ability to facilitate for others, which he hasn’t shown much to date. He’s a true off-ball guard, but can create for himself with ball in his hands. It will be interesting to see how his game translates to the SEC, especially given he’s really only had one season in four years of college in which he’s been NBA-caliber. This is especially true on the defensive end, so he will need to prove he can guard elite athletes and be helpful on that side of the ball.

Lanier is a late-bloomer prospect who is entering his fifth year of college play, so he is older relative to others in the upcoming draft class. He was born in Nashville, so will be closer to home this season. Both of his parents played college basketball, with his father being an alumnus of Lipscomb and his mother playing at Alcorn State.
