Prospect Profile

A sophomore breakout candidate, Swain is a player NBA scouts will be keeping an eye on this season at Xavier. He didn’t get many minutes as a freshman, but was impactful when he did take the floor. Now it’s about scaling that over more minutes in a more significant role.

Swain stands at 6-foot-7 as a wing and now has a solid build following an impressive transformation between his freshman and sophomore seasons from a strength standpoint. He’s an aggressive downhill attacker, but sometimes avoided contact or traffic in the paint. Swain needs to improve his jumper because it was not good at all last season — but that could huge swing this season for draft stock. Luckily for him, his attempts last season were fairly low, so a hot shooting season from beyond the arc as a sophomore would make that freshman blurb easy to disregard.

While he’s comfortable with the ball in his hands, Swain can sometimes be turnover-prone, so getting more reps as a ball handler this year will be key. That will allow him to improve in that area and show teams he’s the perfect modern wing archetype for the NBA. The Xavier wing is also a good positional passer for his size, while being a good mover off-ball and smart cutter.

Swain moves so well in space defensively for his size and knows how to navigate the opposing team’s offensive schemes. He’s effective at getting through screens and using angles, which makes him special on that end his size. Swain’s advanced numbers look really promising on defense, so he will have a real opportunity to stand out in a larger role this season.

A former four-star recruit, Swain is young for his grade and will still be 19 on the night of the 2025 NBA Draft. He will bring a good blend of youth and experience to a team that needs perimeter size and two-way impact.
