Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter is currently being investigated by the NBA due to betting irregularities involving himself. While there has been no official word from the NBA on whether or not Porter was the one betting the under on himself, NBA commissioner Adam Silver told reporters on Wednesday that he is facing a potential ban from the league if that ends up being the case.

"There is nothing more serious, I think, around this league when it comes to gambling and betting on our games and that is a direct player involvement. So the investigation is ongoing but the consequences could be very severe," Silver told reporters, via Marc Stein.

On the consequences, Silver said they could extend to a ban from the game. The league would of course have to uncover that Porter was directly involved in the betting irregularities, but there is certainly enough unusual activity for the league to begin looking deeper into this.

Porter began his NBA career with the Memphis Grizzlies, appearing in 11 games for Memphis in the 2020-21 season. Appearing in 26 games for the Raptors this season, Porter left a few of those early, which is part of what began raising speculation about the betting irregularities when his under for those games produced large payouts.

This will certainly be a story to follow.
