Breaking: Memphis Grizzlies Make Roster Move Before NBA Playoffs
The Memphis Grizzlies had some very unfortunate news today when they announced that their big man Steven Adams was going to likely be out for the NBA Playoffs. As a result, the Grizzlies had to make a new addition to have a potential backup big ready to go.
It was announced today that the Memphis Grizzlies are signing two-way forward/center Kenneth Lofton Jr. to an NBA contract, which makes him eligible to play in the NBA Playoffs. Lofton signed a four-year, $7,000,000 contract with the Grizzlies, earning an annual average salary of $1,750,000.
Lofton was averaging 22.4 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists in the G League this season, and was also named the G League Rookie of the Year. Lofton was also First-team All-Conference USA in 2022, Third-team All-Conference USA in 2021, and Conference USA Freshman of the Year in 2021.
While Lofton has had a great season, he is a bit undersized, being measured at 6 ft 6 in. He's played in some short stints with the Memphis Grizzlies this season, averaging 3.4 points and 1.6 rebounds in roughly 5.9 minutes a game. One would expect the Grizzlies to likely use Lofton as more of an x-factor during the playoffs, or as a third-string backup big.
Regardless of how the Memphis Grizzlies utilize Kenneth Lofton Jr., they will absolutely miss Steven Adams in the playoffs.
