Speaking with Kelly Iko of The Athletic, former Memphis Grizzlies forward and new Houston Rockets signing Dillon Brooks spoke on his excitement to play with Fred VanVleet.

"He finds ways to get guys open shots and I just gotta start knocking them down, that’s all. I can't wait to play with Fred. He's a crafty guard, loves to find his teammates, but ultimately can find a way to score, too. I can't wait to play him and our games mix well," Brooks said.

Iko also added, "When I spoke to Brooks in Las Vegas last week, one thing he noted was the impact the former Raptors point guard [Fred VanVleet] would have on his offensive efficiency, an area he's fully aware he struggled with last season in Memphis."

Several outlets have ran with these two quotes, suggesting Brooks was taking a subtle shot at his former teammate Ja Morant. While Brooks is certainly not afraid of speaking his mind, it feels like quite the stretch to assume these comments were directed at Morant in any way.

By all accounts, Brooks and Morant still have a positive relationship. Morant showed love to Brooks once his deal with the Rockets became official, and Brooks was recently seen rocking Morant's signature shoes during a workout. This recent quote from Brooks seems like nothing more than praise for his new teammate Fred VanVleet.
