Former Grizzlies Player Slams NBA Legend's Controversial Take
NBA legend Julius Erving has been going viral for his interview with Joy De'Angela, where the Hall-of-Fame forward revealed his top-10 players of all-time, and did not include LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Steph Curry, and others. Part of Erving's explanation was that players like James and Curry have not finished their careers yet; however, that doesn't explain the omission of Bryant and Duncan.
During a recent episode of Gil's Arena, former Memphis Grizzlies forward Gilbert Arenas reacted to Erving's list, saying, "He probably hasn't watched the game since [1993]. He probably ain't watched basketball since [1995]. That list ain't got nothing to do with no player after [1995]... Like really think about it. Look at the players... He probably ain't looked at the game in 30-something years."
For reference, Irving's list in no order was Jerry West, Oscar Robertson, Elgin Baylor, Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Karl Malone, and Tiny Archibald. When asked specifically why he left off someone like Steph Curry, Erving said he only included players with completed careers. As previously mentioned, that doesn't explain the omission of some obvious answers like Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan.
Clearly unhappy with Erving's list, Arenas believes he hasn't watched the NBA in several decades, which is why he didn't include some players who certainly belong.
