Full Details of Ja Morant's Gun and Violence Accusations
According to Memphis police records acquired by the Washington Post, Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant was accused of punching a 17-year-old boy and threatening him with a gun last summer. The teenager reportedly told the police that Morant punched him in the head around a dozen times, leaving a visible knot that the police observed.
Following this alleged physical violence from Morant, the teenager also reported that the Grizzlies star returned with a visible gun in the waistband of his pants. Morant also reportedly filed a police report from this same incident, claiming he was acting in self defense, because the teenager had not only thrown a basketball at him, but also reportedly said, "I'm gonna come back and light this place up like fireworks."
According to the initial report, local prosecutors declined to file charges after reviewing the case in its entirety. A statement from a Shelby County District Attorney spokesperson said, "There was not enough evidence to proceed with a case."
These are the primary details from what the Washington Post was able to obtain, which show that Morant did get violent with the teenager, but claimed to be acting in self defense after what he felt was a threat towards him and his family.
Needless to say, this is not the type of publicity that Morant or the Grizzlies want to be involved with. As things sit currently, no charges have been officially filed against the Grizzlies superstar, but this is a story that the organization certainly would prefer never happened in any capacity.
