Grizzlies Star Makes Incredible Community Donation
With summer ending and school ready to begin, Memphis Grizzlies star Desmond Bane hosted his third annual "Bane's Backpacks" community event. Gifting backpacks to 150 kids, Bane spoke about what the event means to him, and his comments were reported by ActionNews5:
"I think that you know, especially in an area like Memphis, it’s essential for kids to kind of get a little excitement going into the school year," Bane said. "You know get some excitement going into it, the proper materials."
The Grizzlies star said it doesn't matter to him if he's an NBA star or a bench player, giving back to the community is something very important to him.
"I want to do it out of the goodness of my heart," Bane added. "You know regardless of if I was an end of the bench guy or the best player on the team, I want to be able to do things like this and bring smiles to these kids’ faces and help them in any way I can."
Bane has been very involved in the community since becoming a member of the Grizzlies, and plans to continue doing so after signing a big contract extension to stay in Memphis. Events like these often do not receive enough publicity, but these backpacks are something so many kids will cherish as they begin a new school year.
