Ja Morant Gets Honest About Where Grizzlies Must Improve
The Memphis Grizzlies suffered a very disappointing first-round exit at the hand of the Los Angeles Lakers, and now face a crucial offseason where they must improve. This improvement should come internally and externally, as the roster could certainly use work, but the core players must improve as well.
This is something Ja Morant understands, and detailed after the season ended. In his comments following elimination, Morant vowed to be better both on and off the court.
"I feel like it starts with us pretty much getting healthy," Morant said. "Thats the number one thing for us. Secondly, just getting back to work. I feel like it's that simple."
Morant detailed why a healthy Grizzlies team could have changed things, citing Steven Adams and his rebounding as a key absence vs. the Lakers, along with Brandon Clarke's play off the bench, Luke Kennard's shooting and spacing, and even Morant himself returning to 100% after injuring his hand.
While injuries were a major factor for Memphis, Morant was honest in saying the team needs to be better even with the guys they had out there on the floor. Morant also took accountability for his own actions throughout the season that hindered the team.
"I just got to be better with my decision-making," Morant said. "That's pretty much it. My off the court issues affected us as an organization pretty much. Just more disciplined."
Morant continued, saying, "I feel like mine is more off the court and on the court. Being disciplined on both sides. Off the court, making better decisions. On the court, being locked in even more. Being a leader of this team pretty much starts with me, so however I attack any situation, I know my guys will follow, so I just got to be better in that area."
