Marcus Smarts Reveals Thoughts About Grizzlies Legend
Marcus Smart and Tony Allen have a plethora of similarities in their career. Smart hasn't talked to Allen about it quite yet, but he revealed his candid thoughts about it all.
"So, I haven't got to talk to Tony personally yet, just got a lot of things going on," Smart said to Grizzlies media. "I'm definitely going to have that talk with him. It's crazy, I was looking it up, people were sending it to me, the similarities. Oklahoma State, the Boston Celtics, now here and everything else that came with it. It's so funny because when I first met Tony Allen, I was at the top 100 camp when I was in high school, and he was one of the camp counselors."
Marcus Smart hasn't even played in a Memphis Grizzlies uniform yet, but it feels like he already has massive shoes to fill. While Ja Morant is the superstar of the Grizzlies, all eyes are going to be on Marcus Smart and how he handles the pivotal leadership role of the team without Morant, and when he comes back, too. Getting compared to a beloved Grizzlies icon like Tony Allen on a consistent basis also has its own pressure as well. Fans are expecting NBA All-Defensive First-Team level defense from Smart, and expecting him to solve the problematic issues of the team.
Ja Morant will be suspended for the first 25 games of the 2023-24 NBA season. Until he returns, it's Marcus Smart's job to lead, just like Tony Allen would.
