Reason for Grizzlies Trading Dillon Brooks Revealed

The Memphis Grizzlies sent Dillon Brooks to the Houston Rockets earlier this offseason in a sign-and-trade deal that landed Brooks a four-year, $80M contract. While Memphis was never going to pay Brooks that much money, they were also ready to move on from him at any price.
During a recent episode of The Lowe Post Podcast, ESPN reporter Tim MacMahon joined the show, and said the following about why Memphis moved on from Brooks:
"I think the reasons the Grizzlies were ready to move on from him are misunderstood. The nonsense was kind of like at a point where culturally it was time. That was not the primary reason. The primary reason the Grizzlies were trying to replace Dillon Brooks for a full two years, repeatedly going after players that would have replaced him in the trade market, and he probably would have been sent out, was because of the shot selection issue. Dillon did not want to be a fourth or fifth offensive weapon."
While many people believed the Grizzlies were over Brooks because of his antics, MacMahon said it was his shot selection that really forced their hand. Often taking ill-advised shots, especially for a player who shoots as poorly as he does, Brooks hurt the Grizzlies on offense quite a bit last season. This was especially true in the playoffs, when Memphis was much better when using a shooter like Luke Kennard in his place.
