Summary

The Atlanta Hawks and Dallas Mavericks entered Sunday evening's matchup with heavy playoff implications hanging in the balance. It took every bit of regulation and overtime, but Atlanta defeated Dallas 132-130.

Every time Trae Young and Luka Doncic face off, it matters because of their shared history. However, today's game was more about Kyrie Irving versus the rest of the Hawks. Irving led Dallas with 41 points but committed a terrible defensive foul with one second remaining in overtime.

Irving's blatant reach-in foul sent Young to the free throw line, where he sunk the game-winning free throws. Of course, Atlanta made plenty of mistakes too. They squandered a 15-point second-half lead, and Clint Capela sent Javale McGee to the foul line with less than half-second remaining in regulation -- yes, it was that kind of game.

It wasn't pretty, it took several challenges and replay reviews, but it was a hard-fought victory for Atlanta. Each of the seven players that scored in double-digits was equally important in the win. Meanwhile, Dallas' hopes of making the Play-In Tournament are quickly diminishing.

Atlanta improves to 39-39, while Dallas falls to 37-42 on the season. The Hawks have practice tomorrow morning and then fly to Chicago for a road test against the Bulls on Tuesday night.
