Summary

The entire basketball world was exhausted by Thursday afternoon's NBA trade deadline. The cumulative fatigue extended to the Atlanta Hawks and Phoenix Suns, who played hours after both teams executed trades.

Both teams were short-handed, but Phoenix was a shell of itself in the wake of the most significant trade of the year. With no Devin Booker (groin), Landry Shamet (foot), Cameron Payne (foot), and Kevin Durant (not with the team), Josh Okogie led Phoenix with 25 points.

However, Okogie's hot shooting did not catch on with his teammates. Phoenix shot a dismal 7-30 (23.3%). Atlanta captured most of those misses, as they dominated the rebounding battle 59-35.

Trae Young was happy to be back home from the long road trip, as he tallied 36 points, 12 assists, and seven rebounds. Unfortunately, nine of Atlanta's 18 turnovers came from Young.

Despite Atlanta's sloppy play, they kept Phoenix at arm's length throughout most of the game. The depleted Suns' roster could never overcome the second-half deficit, losing the game 116-107.

"We've got to be sharper on both ends of the floor," said Hawks head coach Nate McMillan. "It's nothing we haven't seen. We have to do better. We've seen traps, and we've seen pressure all season long."

Atlanta improves to 28-28, while Phoenix falls to 30-27 on the season. Atlanta's next game is Saturday night at home against the San Antonio Spurs.
