Atlanta Hawks Waive Patty Mills and Convert Trent Forrest to a Standard Contract
The Atlanta Hawks decided to make a transaction this morning.
Atlanta has chosen to waive guard Patty Mills and convert Trent Forrest into a standard contract. Forrest had been on a two-way contract, but two-way contracts can only be active for 50 games and that expired for Forrest nearly three weeks. It was strange to not see the Hawks do anything for three weeks, but they chose to waive Mills to create room to convert Forrest to a standard contract.
Mills did not play much for the Hawks and it made sense for the Hawks to waive him. Forrest has not offered much on the offensive end of the floor, but he is solid on defense and could help the Hawks in that area.
The deadline to sign a player to a two-way contract is March 4th. If the Hawks want to add a player on a two-way contract for the rest of this season, they have until then to do so.
The Hawks are on the road tonight for a crucial two-game stretch vs the Brooklyn Nets.
It is crucial because Atlanta finds themselves in 10th place in the Eastern Conference, four games ahead of the Nets. If the Hawks can win the next two games, they will be ahead by six games with only 22 games left in the season. It is an important two games for both teams.
Brooklyn limps into this game having lost eight of their last ten games and most of those games have been blowouts. After starting the year off well and looking like like a solid bet to be in the play-in tournament, the Nets have completely fallen apart and have since fired former head coach Jacque Vaughan. Former UConn head coach Kevin Ollie is the interim head coach for the Nets.
