Gilbert Arenas Wants Players Drug Tested After All-Star Vote
The 2023 NBA All-Star Game tips off in just a few hours, and a former player is still unhappy about the rosters. After spending years dominating the league, Gilbert Arenas has become an important voice in the sport thanks to his candidness and honesty.
On the Fubo Sports show No Chill with Gilbert Arenas, the host ridiculed current players for snubbing Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young in the All-Star vote. Young finished 12th in the players' voting, sixth in the media's vote, and fifth among fans in the Eastern Conference.
Arenas looked into the camera and asked for the players to be drug tested. "I'm not talking about weed; I'm talking about the good stuff," said Arenas. "They're on drugs. Like, you need to put them in the rehab. They need a two-year suspension because they are not right."
All jokes aside, Arenas went on to make several salient points about Young's case for the All-Star Game. Young is averaging 26.7 points and 10.7 assists per game, which ranks fourth and second among Eastern Conference guards.
Young missing the All-Star game is disappointing for his loyal legions of fans across the country. However, the story is deeper than the players' vote. We recently learned that Young had declined invitations as an injury reserve player in the All-Star Game in 2021 and 2023.
There is no doubt that Young will have many more All-Star Game appearances in the future, but right now, the 24-year-old must focus on getting his team back on track. Atlanta is 28-29 and ranked eighth in the Eastern Conference. Missing All-Star Weekend and recharging his batteries will help prepare Atlanta's floor general for the final stretch of the season.
