Hawks Give Injury Update On Rookie Mouhamed Gueye
Hawks rookie Mouhamed Gueye has been on the injury report for the Hawks for the last two months, but Atlanta did provide an update on him today.
"Forward Mouhamed Gueye (right low back stress fracture), who has been participating in light on-court work including spot shooting, has increased the intensity of his individual workouts to include full court activity. He will be re-evaluated in two-to-three weeks and his status will be updated as appropriate."
This is an encouraging sign for the promising rookie. Gueye has a chance to be a versatile forward and while I don't think he will see any playing time for the Hawks even when he does return, he could be getting some valuable playing time for College Park, like Kobe Bufkin.
Gueye was included on the Hawks injury report today for their matchup against the Heat tomorrow.
De’Andre Hunter (right knee inflammation), Vit Krejci (left shoulder subluxation), and Wesley Matthews (right calf strain) are all out for Atlanta as well.
Here is a part of the scouting report for Gueye while he was at Washington State from NBA Draft Digest:
"Gueye is an elite offensive rebounder, pulling down nearly 3.5 per game as sophomore. His ability to generates second chance points is extremely valuable at any level. He’s also an underrated positional passer, dishing out roughly two assists per game last season.
In transition, he should fit the modern NBA game well. Gueye has good acceleration and runs the floor well for a forward. We wouldn’t call him a point forward, but he has good handles at 6-foot-11 and has no problem bringing the ball up the court upon pulling down a board. That’s a skill that every big needs to thrive at the next level."
