NBA In-Season Tournament Standings: Where are the Hawks in Group Play?
Group play is winding down in the NBA in-season tournament and soon, the knockout stage is going to begin.
Currently in East Group A, there is only one team that is undefeated in group play and that would be the Indiana Pacers. The Pacers are 2-0 in group play and they have been one of the most intriguing teams in this NBA season so far. Tyrese Haliburton leads the NBA in assists and the Pacers as a team are 1st in the NBA in PPG.
Indiana would be sitting in a great position if they were to beat the Hawks in Atlanta on Tuesday. The winner of each group moves to the knockout stage and that would make them 3-0.
The 76ers are 2-1 and their only loss is to the Pacers. They have wins over Detroit and Atlanta and still have a game against Cleveland left.
The Cavs are 1-1 with a win over Detroit and a loss to the Pacers. They have to play Philadelphia and Atlanta in group play.
The Hawks still have a path to winning the group. If they can get wins over the Pacers and the Cavaliers and have Philadelphia lose to Cleveland, they will win Group A. They are going to have to start playing better though, as they have lost four of their last six games.
The Pistons are the one team that does not have hope to win the group, as they are 0-3.
EAST GROUP A STANDINGS
1. Indiana: 2-1
2. Philadelphia: 2-1
3. Cleveland Cavaliers: 1-1
4. Atlanta Hawks: 1-1
5. Detroit Pistons: 0-3
Here is a refresher on how the in-season tournament works.
From NBA.com:
The semifinals (Thursday, Dec. 7) and Championship will take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. For a complete schedule, click here.
Eight teams will advance to the Knockout Rounds: the team with the best standing in Group Play games in each of the six groups and two “wild cards” (the team from each conference with the best record in Group Play games that finished second in its group). The Knockout Rounds will be single-elimination games in the Quarterfinals (played in NBA team markets on Monday, Dec. 4, and Tuesday, Dec. 5), Semifinals, and Championship. The qualifying teams will compete for a prize pool and the new In-Season Tournament trophy, the NBA Cup.
All 67 games across both stages of the In-Season Tournament will count toward the regular-season standings except the Championship. Each team will continue to play 82 regular-season games in the 2023-24 season, including those games that are part of Group Play and the Knockout Rounds.
