NBA Standings Update: A look at the Eastern Conference Standings After the In-Season Tournament
The NBA's In-Season Tournament is now over and It appeared to be a success. The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Indiana Pacers last night and LeBron James took home the Tournament MVP. I would suspect that Adam Silver will bring this back next season and it could be even better.
But now that it's over, how do the standings look in the Eastern Conference?
Looking at them, Atlanta's bad stretch of play over the past couple of weeks has them at 10th in the East and clinging to it by a half-game over the Toronto Raptors. The Hawks have lost three in a row heading into Monday's matchup with the Denver Nuggets, who also have lost three in a row.
Boston remains on top of the Eastern Conference and just secured another win over the New York Knicks. Orlando and Milwaukee remain a game and a half behind Boston and that could be a race to watch. Orlando has been one of the surprises of the season so far and it will be interesting to see if they can keep this up. Despite a loss to the Pacers in the Tournament, Milwaukee is 7-3 in their last 10 games.
The 76ers are in fourth place and two games back of Boston. Joel Embiid is playing at an MVP level again and had a 50 point game against the Wizards this week and another big performance vs the Hawks.
Indiana and Cleveland are at the 5th and 6th spots just on the edge of the play-in tournament. After a terrific performance in the In-Season Tournament, Tyrese Haliburton and the Pacers will be one of the storylines of the NBA as the playoffs get closer.
Brooklyn and New York are in 7th and 8th place. Brooklyn has won three in a row and is playing well, but the Knicks have stumbled in the past 10 games.
Miami has fallen from the top of the conference towards the back half. They are in 9th place, but they are only a half-game behind the Nets and the Knicks and one game behind the Pacers and the Cavs. The Heat are 4-6 in their last ten games and have been dealing with injuries to Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro so watch out for Miami.
Toronto and Chicago are right behind the Hawks in the play-in race as hard as that might seem to believe. Trade rumors surround both and will continue to unless they start winning more.
Charlotte, Washington, and Detroit remain at the bottom. The Pistons have lost 19 games in a row.
